HONDAS LATEST HYBRID

HONDA’S LATEST HYBRID: A TRIPLE-MODE SNOWBLOWER
Honda Motor Co. has developed a new hybrid snowblower that uses electric motors for
propulsion and a gasoline engine to drive its snowblowing mechanism and recharge its
battery. It’s the fourth model in the company’s hybrid snowblower lineup, which debuted
its first model in 2001. The new midsize gasoline-electric system generates up to 15 hp and features an advanced control unit that regulates throttle opening to maintain the same speed as load conditions change. Users also can preset snow discharge distances. Honda has sold more than 20,000 hybrid snowblowers since introducing the technology four years ago. The new HSM1590i model is the first midsize blower to use a hybrid drive and the first with three operating modes: auto, power and manual.

Toyota Camry Hybrid

Toyota annouced that they will offer a Camry Hybrid. The Camry will also be the first U.S.-built Toyota gasoline- electric hybrid. Toyota has said it will eventually offer hybrid drives in all its top-selling models. It wants to build on the lead it holds in hybrid sales of Prius cars and add a direct competitor to Honda Motor Co.'s gasoline-electric Accord, which went on sale in 2004, Hall said. ``There's some competitive pressure to get a hybrid Camry into the market soon,'' said Hall, who is based in Southfield, Michigan.
``Camry is a natural next step, but we haven't made any decisions,'' on selling a hybrid version, said John Hanson, a spokesman for Toyota's U.S. sales unit in Torrance, California. Toyota is based in Toyota City, Japan.
``The midsize-sedan segment is moving in that direction, so it would be logical to offer a hybrid Camry,'' said CSM's Langley. He expects that version to go on sale in mid to late 2006.
